This course is a technical introduction to VTAM, CICS, DB2 and IMS, their terminology and especially their relationships to z/OS. Completion of this course will help you communicate with others in the MVS environment. A wide range of people will find the course beneficial, from new or experienced MVS system programmers to support personnel specializing in any of the subsystems. Administrators and technical managers working in MVS will find it worthwhile, too. You will need an understanding of MVS and its structure before attending.

  • Identify the users of VTAM services and the method of interface with MVS
  • Understand the critical MVS system resource requirements of VTAM, CICS, IMS and DB2
  • Describe the functions and major features of CICS, IMS, VTAM

Audience

This course is designed for new and experienced z/OS system programmers, system programmers and administrators, currently working with subsystems such as CICS, IMS, DB2, or VTAM, and technical managers working in an MVS environment. It is also advised for individuals with a technical background who wish to gain a general understanding of VTAM, CICS, IMS, and DB2 in order to pursue more advanced study or to better communicate with others in the z/OS community.

Participants should understand the function and structure of the MVS-z/OS operating system.
