CICS/TS COBOL Programming Workshop Training

This course combines lectures and workshops to teach student techniques of writing on-line application programs in the mainframe CICS/TS environment. The principal CICS facilities covered are Task Control, Program Control, Terminal control, File control, Temporary Storage and design structure. Students also learn the techniques of pseudo-conversational programming and prevention of task abends. This course is hands-on and workshop oriented.

Audience

This coursed is appropriate for the programmers new to CICS development as well as those desiring an introduction to on-line processing concepts and commands.

Objectives

By the end of the course, you will be able to...

  • Use the tools needed to code and maintain CICS/TS programs
  • Discuss the concepts of on-line processing through CICS/TS
  • Use pseudo-conversational programming, COMMAREA, and Modified Data Tags
  • Discuss Program Control Design, LINKs, and XCTL to other program/systems
  • Work with Basic Mapping Support (BMS)
  • Use the file operations features in CICS
  • Discuss structured programming concepts and techniques in CICS/TS
  • Discuss good examples of CICS/TS programs

Prerequisites

A working knowledge of Cobol II, PL/1 or Assembler is needed.
