This course is intended for Java programmers who are interested in learning about the WebSphere and Rational family of products. Students will obtain an introduction to two members of the Rational family: Rational Software Architect and Rational Application Developer. Rational Software Architect can be used for UML modeling, Java development, application assembly, and unit testing. Rational Application Developer provides a subset of the features offered by Rational Software Architect. Students will also obtain an introduction to two members of the WebSphere family: WebSphere Application Server and WebSphere Portal Server. WebSphere Application Server serves as a run-time environment for J2EE applications and WebSphere Portal Server, which runs atop WebSphere Application Server, serves as a runtime environment for portal applications. Last but not least, students will obtain an introduction to Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), a technology which underscores all of the products mentioned above.
