WA1310 Solaris OE System Administration

Attendees of this course will learn how to perform the basic day-to-day system administration tasks required on the Solaris Operating Environment. Topics include system start up, and shut down, adding/deleting users, installing terminals, modems, and printers, backing up and restoring system and user data, application package installation, security, and general administrative advice.

Course Objectives:

Upon Completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • State the duties and responsibilities of a system administrator
  • Install the Solaris Operating System
  • Start up and shut down a Solaris system gracefully
  • Add and delete user accounts and groups
  • add and configure terminals and printers
  • Create new filesystems, check the integrity of filestystems, and repair damaged filesystems
  • Identify Solaris floppy and tape device special files
  • Perform cmplete and incremental filesystem backups and restores
  • Unse the cpio and tar archive programs for data storage and retrieval
  • Set upa nd use the cron and at facilities
  • Identify and correct common problems.
