WA1494 Lab Setup Guide – WMQ V6 on AS/400 Training and Courseware

Set up requirements

Windows workstations:

The workstation for each student and the instructor should have the following set-up:

  • 3250 emulation software with access to iSeries
  • should have a File Transfer capability to upload/download files
  • User IDs with access to the 3250 emulator
  • Internet access
  • Optionally WMQ Server and Client software (V5.3 or higher)

The instructor machine should be connected to the overhead projection equipment and should have a recent version of PDF available for the presentation.

iSeries set up requirements:

Summary of iSeries set up requirements:

The students plus the instructor will require an iSeries WMQ system to perform basic WMQ administration tasks. This will include:
Creating, starting, stopping, deleting queue managers
Using WMQ commands to define / delete and use WMQ objects (queues, channels, listeners, etc.)
Using WMQ sample programs (PUT, GET, etc.) to test the WMQ configuration
The following section outlines the set up requirements.

iSeries  set up:

  • The course labs require the WMQ V6 Server software to be preinstalled on a test iSeries machine.

Note: Web Age Solutions does not provide the required WMQ software!

  • All students plus the instructor will require iSeries user IDs for iSeries admin access  + WMQ access to perform their labs. The default Labs use IDs named ADMQMx where x=1, 2… and so on.
  • The ideal setup will allow each student and the instructor to create and customize their own iSeries queue managers, channels, etc.
  • The student and instructor IDs will require authority to:

Access iSeries system commands (WRKSBSJOB, WRKUSRPRF,  WRKACTJOB, etc.)
Create/Delete iSeries libraries / files and IFS files
Read access to all WMQ installation / runtime libraries and files
Start/stop WMQ related jobs
Access to WMQ Admin panels (WRKMQ*, DSPMQ*, CRTMQ*, etc.)

  • It is assumed that WMQ V6 is fully functional and tested on the test iSeries system where the labs will be run. This includes:
  • Running Queue Manager jobs
  • Fully functional TCP/IP interface for Channels
  • Support for WMQ Client connection (SVRCONN)
  • Compiled Sample PUT / GET programs
  • Setup  WMQ security to include all Student and Instructor IDs in the QMQMADM group

Documentation

All students will require access to WMQ online or hard copy documentation:

  • MQSeries Documentation CD (IBM Book Manager) or
  • Windows WMQ Info Centre (part of WMQ Windows)  or
  • Reliable Internet access to IBM documentation
