MS2694 Updating Web Server Skills to Internet Information Services 6.0

Unit 1: Installing IIS 6.0

This unit introduces IIS 6.0 and describes its redesigned architecture. The unit also covers installing IIS 6.0 and introduces the scenarios and tools that will be used throughout the workshop.

Unit Objectives

After completing this unit, students will be able to:

  • Install IIS 6.0.

  • Verify settings of isolation mode and configure auto updates.

  • Create a new Web site and virtual directory.

  • Install IIS 6.0 Resource Kit.

    Unit 2: Enabling the Web Server as an Application Server

    This unit explains application pooling, isolation mode, and Web gardens, and covers how to configure these features to provide application server functionality.

    After completing this unit, students will be able to:

  • Configure the application server.

  • Implement application pooling in worker process isolation mode.

  • Configure a Web garden.

  • Implement an FTP site in user isolation mode.

    Unit 3: Manually Migrating to IIS 6.0

    This unit explains how existing Web sites can be migrated from previous versions of IIS by using a manual process.

    After completing this unit, students will be able to:

  • Manually migrate a Web site from IIS 4.0 or IIS 5.0 to IIS 6.0.

  • Manually migrate an existing Web site.

    Unit 4: Using the Migration Tool to Migrate a Web Site to IIS 6.0

    This unit explains how the IIS migration tool can be used to automatically migrate Web sites from previous versions.
