Highlighted New Releases:

WA1605 SOA Data Modeling
Web Age is delighted to add this advanced class to our curriculum. This course is designed for the data modelers who are considering using SOA as the next generation methodology for Enterprise Application Integration. Data modeling plays a key role in SOA where the chief concern is data integration between applications. Traditionally data modeling has been limited to Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). This course will help you extend your existing RDBMS modeling knowledge to the SOA world.

WA1636 Eclipse Boot Camp for Java Programmers Using MyEclipse and WebSphere
This course is intended for Java programmers who are interested in using MyEclipse and Eclipse to build their applications. Applications you develop during the course are based on the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) component model that uses servlets and JSPs for the control and flow of e-business applications. You are going to use the Eclipse IDE to develop J2EE applications, including servlets, JSPs, and Enterprise JavaBeans, debug and test them in the WebSphere test environment.

WA1563 Developing J2EE Applications Using Spring Framework v2.0 and RAD 7.0
Web Age is pleased to announce the release of WA1563, Spring 2.0 on Rational Application Developer (RAD) v7.0.  This course covers many of the enhancements that were added with Spring 2.0 and uses the latest version of RAD (v7.0).  Even if you currently use RAD v6.0 you will find this course useful.

Web 2.0 Curriculum
Web 2.0 holds tremendous potential for enterprises of all shapes and sizes. The network has evolved from being a mere conduit for exchanging files, into a full-fledged ecosystem that is capable of facilitating collaboration and innovation. Web Age now offers 4 Web 2.0 classes:

WA1607 Overview of Web 2.0 for Developers

Web Age’s most Requested Classes in January:

Our most popular SOA Classes in January:

In focus: Updated Classes

Web Age strives to continuously update and enhance our curriculum. The Java curriculum is one current area of focus.
This month the Web Age “classic” WA1278 Introduction to Java using Eclipse has been completely revamped. Enhancements include:
  1. More focus on the language changes introduced with Java 5.
  2. More hands-on labs.
  3. “Project” labs that describe a real world problem and ask students to write code to solve it.  These “project” labs gradually build up a complex program and the students are only given the requirements for the code, not the code itself so it represents a real life scenario.

We’ve also updated our Servlets and JSP class to reflect newer technologies including RAD 7 and Java 5 WA1550 Servlets & JSP Development with Rational Application Developer 7.0
Enhancements include:

  1. Uses Java 5 syntax
  2. Custom tag development chapter and labs have been updated
  3. JSTL and JSP EL chapter and lab added
  4. JSF chapter and lab added

Come and meet us!

  1. Stuart Smith, Web Age Application Server and Portal Administration Lead, will be presenting “A New Boss in Town” at the IBM Impact 2008 conference in Las Vegas from April 6-April. With the certification of Java EE 5 compatibility, WebSphere Community Edition v2.0 has emerged as the new “best of breed” option in the free-to-use application server market.  Several features of WAS-CE provide significant value when compared to the JBoss Application Server.  This session will demonstrate some of these differentiating features so that developers and administrators can properly leverage them to simplify application development, deployment, and administration.
  2. Kyle Gabhart, Director of SOA Solutions will present Avoiding Governance Fallacies and Pitfalls
This session explores case studies from the Defense, Financial, Insurance, and Travel industries regarding Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) adoption and governance.  Lessons learned will be identified and best practices discussed with respect to governing Enterprise Architecture (EA) and SOA in particular.
